Remember, tonight’s Association meeting will be at 6:30 at Baxter’s. We look forward to seeing you. Everyone who comes will receive either a new car, a two-week whirlwind, world vacation, or a hearty handshake. Rick Eagleton, Pres.

Friends, The trees are budding and the pipes are unfreezing,…well, then they’re freezing again and unfreezing.  OK, maybe we have a bit more of this cold stuff, but Groundhog Day has passed and Spring Training is about to start. So, let’s all get upbeat about the thing, and get together for a little neighborhood social time. As an agenda item for our February meeting, we’ll talk about our status of implementing the Alert Neighbors program, which we are doing with the assistance of Crime Stoppers. It’s pretty exciting to get started on this to make our neighborhood even more welcoming. I hope you’ll come and hear what’s going on and volunteer.  For it to work, we need folks all around the neighborhood to become knowledgeable. We could use you.

Also, we’re going to ask for volunteers to help with a Welcoming Committee to the neighborhood. It surely was nice when I moved into the neighborhood and greeted by so many neighbors with goodies.  The Association would like to formally greet all new families into the neighborhood and let them know what’s what. Getting to know neighbors can’t help but improve the experience for all of us.

We’ll also talk a bit about upcoming events and opportunities in the neighborhood, so I hope you’ll come join us. Please take note of the new time of 6:30pm, still at Baxters Interurban at 7th and Houston. As always, feel free to call me if you have any questions about the neighborhood or our Association. Friends, The Directors and Officers of the Riverview Association for 2019 will be Rick Eagleton (President), Melissa Fields (Vice President / Secretary) and Ray Luth (Treasurer). Please extend your condolences. We have tentatively nominated three others to serve, but since they weren’t in attendance last night and because we are decent folk, we didn’t formally elect them.

As to the most interesting part of the Annual Meeting, Karen Gilbert, Executive Director of Tulsa Crime Stoppers, gave a very helpful presentation on the Alert Neighbors program. We gather that it is based on a program developed in the 70’s, sometimes known as Neighborhood Watch. Many of our neighbors will be familiar with it. Now that we have had three formal meetings addressing Crime and Safety in Riverview and have heard from a variety of stakeholders (neighbors, businesses, landlords, City and law enforcement personnel, and Ms. Gilbert), we have decided to see if we can get the Alert Neighbors program up and running. It won’t be overnight, but we are excited by the prospects of this and the opportunity to make our neighborhood even better.

An essential part of the success of this program is that neighbors become involved. I have read a fair amount of literature on similar programs in other neighborhoods, and Ms. Gilbert will provide us with training and information as to how we can succeed here. I’m willing to serve as Neighborhood Coordinator (until such time as someone wants to replace me—hint hint) and now need to put together a steering / planning committee. There are tasks we need to accomplish and training materials to guide us. We already have a few volunteers for this and need some more. I anticipate meeting in the next few weeks. Please feel free to call me at the office at 918-878-8091 or on my cell phone at 918-845-0637, or you can email me at reagleton@rjeoffices.com, to volunteer or with any questions you may have.

Neighbors, This is a reminder that our Annual Meeting will be at Baxter’s (7th and Houston) at 6:00pm on January 14, 2019. We’ll elect officers and talk about what the Association would like to try to accomplish next year. By tradition, we’ll provide some yummy food, so please come join us. Also, please become members. We need the support!

We’re also scheduled to receive a presentation from Karen Gilbert of Crime Stoppers on the Neighborhood Alert program. Due to tight scheduling, she needs to start right at 6:00pm. It should be a fascinating presentation, and we believe she can help us in our continuing discussion on Crime and Safety. I look forward to seeing you and to a wonderful new year of meeting new neighbors. Rick Eagleton, President.

Friends, please don’t forget the Christmas party IS TONIGHT at 7:00 – 9:00 at the Spotlight Theatre. Please do come join us and see the neighborhood neighborhood theater.

Friends and Neighbors, this is a reminder that the Association will hold it’s October meeting this Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Baxter’s Interurban Grill, 717 South Houston Ave. We intend to discuss what action plans would be appropriate after the very helpful safety meeting we held in September. Now’s the time to talk about what we all can do, together, to make our neighborhood even more welcoming and secure. We are also forming our Welcoming Committee and hope we may have some more volunteers for that. And surely we can find a way to coordinate getting together for some holiday cheer. Let’s get together Wednesday to talk about all this and more. I look forward to seeing you all.  Rick Eagleton, President.

Friends and Neighbors, Please remember that on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, The Riverview Neighborhood Association dedicates its next scheduled monthly meeting to safety and crime prevention in the neighborhood. We have invited and have received confirmation that city officials and law enforcement, as well as other neighborhood businesses, will join us to hear our concerns and to collaborate with us as to how we may all work together to make our neighborhood as safe and welcoming as it can be. Our meeting will take place in the meeting room at Baxter’s Interurban Grill, 717 South Houston Ave. Feel free to call me personally if you would like.  Rick Eagleton, President:  918-845-0637

Friends, several of our neighbors have asked about passes to the Gathering place.  Well, our Board Member, Ray Luth, tracked this down for us and obtained the link to request passes into the fabulous new park before opening. We hear it’s first come, first serve. Good luck (and thanks Ray).
